I just read in my friend, jojo’s blog that Krispy Kreme Philippines is opening their 6th branch at th ground floor of the Jaka Building along Ayala Avenue. The store opens pretty early — at 6:00am to be exact, so as a treat for those who line up and wait, they’re giving away a boat load of donuts.

  • 1 year supply of original glazed donuts (1 dozen per week) for the 1st customer
  • 6 months supply of original glazed donuts (1 dozen per week) for the 2nd customer
  • 3 months supply of original glazed donuts (1 dozen per week) for the 3rd customer
  • 1 month supply of original glazed donuts (1 dozen per week) for the 4th to the 300th customer

Go get your supply of Krispy Kreme!

A Pinoy version of an old Japanese gag. Apparently there are a couple more videos in Nescafé Soundskool’s website, as part of their campaign to promote the inter-school battle of the bands.

chikatime

For those of you that have enjoyed reading the entries of Brian Gorrell, the Aussie that has allegedly been swindled out of some USD 70,000 [by one DJ Montano], here’s another site that may tickle your fancy.

Chikatime is another blog / website dedicated to serving up ‘delicious gossip and fiction’. And as their write-up read: “Inspired by the abundance of international celebrity gossip and entertainment blogs, Vanessa R. and Vhong P. started Chikatime.com to poke fun at the people you see in the media. From showbiz has-beens and models to designers, socialites, politicians and wanna-bes, Chikatime has it covered. We like to gossip about people kasi inggit kami and call center life is dull and boring. Why not take advantage of free internet, malay mo, maging kasing-rich namin si Perez Hilton?” the sites primarily target is to poke fun at socialites and celebrities. Some of the gossip published is true, some of it is purely fiction, and some just plain slanderous hearsay.

But if gossip is your cup of tea, then you really may want to check out Chikatime.

pilar turns 1

my cousin’s baby, pilar turns one tomorrow (25 march). to celebrate her birthday, we all went to tita cheche and tito del’s place in bay. as it was easter sunday, the kids had an easter egg hunt in the morning, followed by a few games and, of course, lunch.

pilar enjoyed all the food (especially the spaghetti), fun and games, and opening of gifts.

subic weekend

despite my previous post on the horror of staying at the subic international hotel, the weekend was still pretty fun. i was able to hit the beach, relax and spend some time with kan and her family.

and while hanging out at the beach, there was this pretty cool band, kawangis ng tribo churning out some funky tunes with their ethnic instruments.

subic international hotel

It’s sad when an institution with a glorious past has faded into a shell of its former self.

Over the Holy Week holiday, we checked in to the Subic International Hotel — a once premier destination in the Subic freeport area. As we were a semi big group, we were placed in the Alpha hotel (the oldest section of the buildings). There was a reception area, with no receptionist and no guard on duty, and half the lights in the building were off. Our room was actually pretty decent, considering the hotel is decades old. However, it did have a distinct smell to it…sort of like checking into an apartelle [and the connecting room was worse]. As soon as we got settled in to our room (at around 3pm) we asked to have one extra bed removed, as it was blocking the door to the connecting room. And we also complained that our aircon didn’t seem to be cooling. Their response: “We’ll have someone go on up to remove the bed and check into the aircon.” So we decided to go out and enjoy our free time.

Fast forward to around 11PM. Our elevator wouldn’t stop on the third floor, so we had to get out on the fourth and take the stairs to our stop. (Okay, so it’s not really a long walk, but it’s still not what you’d normally expect from your hotel) The bed was still in our room, and our aircon was surprisingly shut off. So we called for some assistance. After a few minutes, someone came to retrieve the extra bed…then the aircon mysteriously came on. We didn’t touch anything, we didn’t move anything. it just happened. but as we were dead tired, we decided to just let everything go.

The next day, was pretty much the same — we were out of the hotel the whole day, and when we got back the airconditioner was still “breathing its last gasps.” We called the hotel to complain about the cooling system. Their solution: to move us to a different room at 1130 in the evening. But again, we were so tired, we decided to call it a night. By around 12, we were all knocked out, starting to sweat from the heat. And to make matters worse, the lights and aircon intermittently shut off, at varying intervals like a cheap disco trying to save on some electricity bills.

At around 7am, the next day, we were all up…a little grumpy from our restless sleep, but still making jokes about the previous nights “(mis)adventure,” when we started to smell something burning. Our favorite aircon was starting to spew smoke. Immediately we shut it off and unplugged the appliance, and promptly informed the front desk of the incident. The hotel staff promptly arrived and removed the offending party, and sheepishly admitted that their rooms and amenities really aren’t cared for or upgraded…or at least haven’t been for the last 48 years (probably an exaggeration, but at the time, it seemed like he wasn’t joking). We didn’t get a call or an explanation, so we decided to file a complaint. I wasn’t there personally, but as Ran narrated, she felt that the Executive Assistant Manager was really not sympathetic to our plight. He just kept on saying “We’ll take this constructively yada yada.” No apology, no explanation”. What if we had been asleep when the aircon actually burst into flames?!? And he even had the gall to say “Have you seen our Delta building (the newest wing of the hotel).” No, we haven’t, as you placed us in the crappy wing…and we probably won’t, as the hotel now sucks.

I don’t mean to bash the hotel for no reason at all. But for the service and amenities provided this weekend, this has go to be put out there in the public. So the next time you head over to Subic, make sure to check out the other hotels before even considering Subic International Hotel. And if you do decide to rest there, make sure to say your prayers before hitting the sack.

creating a lomo effect

As a follow up to my previous post, I decided to put a simple tutorial on ow to create a lomo effect for your digital photos — scanned or otherwise. Of course, it won’t be exactly the same as an actual lomo photo, but it pretty much emulates the effect.

So here goes…

    1. Open your photo to edit. Let’s use this one as a sample.

    2. Apply a Lens Correction Filter (follow the steps below)
       a. Filter
       b. Distort
       c. Lens Correction
       d. adjust the VIGNETTE and MIDPOINT to your liking

your image should look like this:

    3. Select the Channels Tab in your workspace and click on the Red Channel

    4. Adjust the brightness / contrast (follow the steps below)
       a. go to Image
       b. select Adjustments
       c. select Brightness / Conrast
       d. increase the contrast to your liking

    5. Select the Green Channel and repeat Step 4
    6. Select the RGB Channel to see the results

*************

    7. You can take it a bit further, by Adjusting the Levels (CTRL+L) and use the slider to your liking…

    8. …and even one step further by placing more color on the photo by Adjusting the Hue / Saturation (CTRL+U)

and your final photo will look like this:

good luck on your experiments… ^_^

lomography in DPP

Digital Photographer Philippines
announced it’s new issue coming out…and for the first time, they’re actually focusing on film (of course, the effect can be manipulated digitally [see photo below], but that’s a different story). I haven’t gotten my hands on a copy yet, so I’ll just have to wait and see what the rest of the mag’s gonna feature.

It’s also perfect timing, as my cousin just shipped home my order from adorama and amazon: a lomo lc-a camera pack and a colorsplash flash.

yeng constantino meet & greet

As a follow up to a very busy Tuesday [Colbie Caillat and Mandy Moore], we headed over to the Star Records preview room in the ABS-CBN compound for the short and very intimate chat event cum blogger meet & greet with multi-talented, first “Grand Star Winner” of Pinoy Dream Academy Yeng Constantino.

For a few minutes, Yeng got to share her thoughts with the Yehey! Chatters while we were given a preview of her upcoming singles. This was followed by a candid Q & A, by her invited fans and selected bloggers, and of course, the customary picture taking and autograph signing.

View Azrael’s video stream of the event.

mandy moore presscon

Straight from the airport, America’s pop princess singer / songwriter / actress Mandy Moore made her way to the Richmonde Hotel for her much awaited presscon. The room was packed with press and fans alike…and trying to squeeze in for a spot between warm bodies and camera crews was an experience in itself. But I found my nook, contorted my body and just fired away…in between shifting positions, and ducking and dodging other cameras, lenses and hands.

Catch her later on tonight [12 March 2008 at 7:30 PM] as Eastwood City will be transformed into a makeshift amphitheater for her one-day performance.

Read a Music Review on her new album.

colbie caillat

Colbie Caillat, the singer / songwriter behind the catchy tune “Bubbly”, and the new single Realize had her meet and greet cum presscon at Tropezz Bar and Resto a few hours ago. She graciously answered the questions thrown at her, and even gave us a sample performance, by belting out a few bars of Bob Marley’s “Waiting in Vain”.

For those of you interested in catching Colbie perform live and in person, she will be touring the Ayala Malls for a couple of performances with “OPM’s Soulchild,” Julianne as her front act. Catch her on the following dates:

  • March 11, 7:00 PM: Glorietta Activity Center
  • March 12, 6:00 PM: Trinoma

In a few hours, it’s off to Mandy Moore’s presscon…

trinoma dessert haven

last march 7, trinoma held a follow up to it’s blogger food tour. this time, it was all about desserts. we were given GCs to purchase the various goodies from the participating outlets [Dulcelin, CakeBiz, Must be Moms, Unit 16 Sweets, Gigi La Crepe, Katlyn’s Kitchen, Fleur de Lys, Sugarhouse, Russian Cookie House, St. Clements Kitchen, Swell Sweets and more], and of course, we invited a few bloggers to join in the feast of sweets. so we purchased numerous sugary samplers and spread them for our indulging accomplices. and like a pack of wolves after the kill, we gobbled up all the treats…cakes, cookies, pies, cupcakes, tortes ant tarts, ensaymadas and puto.

when the “smoke” cleared, and we all had our fill, we still had a lot to brown bag and take home (as seen in the photo above).

you can still participate and take advantage of the ongoing promo. every P1,500 purchase at any participating restaurant on the 3/F or 4/F of TriNoma Park entitles you to a free dessert from any Dessert Haven concessionaire.
