Spent the day taking more photos of new employees, as well as shots of people that wanted retakes for the creative shots for our company IDs. Here are some of the results.

trippy new program

As I was surfing through the PhilMug forum, I came across a post that led me to a new program that transforms your photos into polaroid shots. Of course, you can do this manually via Photoshop, but this application makes life simpler, by allowing us lazy users to just drag and drop the images into the application… and voila: instant polaroid, with a few neat effects (so far, I’ve come across scratches and fingerprints).

Of course, you have less control on the framing of your photo or the saturation of colors, but it’s a trade off, if you wanna use a drag-and-drop app.

Here’s a sample:

Amazing Philippine Beauties

The Philippines is known for it’s hospitable people and beautiful destinations. However, unbeknownst to the majority, is the group of amazing beauties that can be found performing in the Manila Film Center in Pasay City.

Recently, the same group behind the performances held a pageant to crown this years queen, and perhaps become a part of the troupe.

However, what makes this “amazing” is the fact that these beauties actually belong to the masculine variety.

Check out the photos…

Yes, they are men.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year

Disney has found a great formula, bottled it up and churned out the probable last installment of its franchise in High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

Starring the tween / young adult favorites Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, the ensemble of cast members pull off one of the biggest productions put up by Disney in recent years.

Last night, I had the chance to catch the premiere of the phenomenon known as High School Musical, with four kids in tow… and the movie blew us away. Perhaps we enjoyed the flick for different reasons, but this just showed the universal appeal of the movie.

The set design and whole production was grand — with my personal fave, a song number by Ryan and Sharpay entitled “I Want it All”. And in true Evans fashion, the number was done in luxurious and ostentatious fashion, with several changes in sets that could rival even (a juvenile) Baz Lhurmann (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge) production.

Of course, the music was great, too. After all, this has become the signature of the whole series. It is just a little bit sad that the franchise has reached its end. But who knows. As Anshel, one of the kids I was with pointed out “Next year, College Musical na.”

Has anybody noiced why the sky seems to be prettier and bluer outside of Metro Manila?

I met Forrest Gump

Just this afternoon, Bubba Gump invited a few people from the media and press to experience some of the new dishes being offered in their branches.

The food was aplenty. Old favorite dishes were served up, as well as some of the newer fare. There was so much food, that I simply sampled the dishes, to make sure I got a taste of all the flavors.

ON THE MENU:

Appetizers:

  • She Crab Soup – blue crab and caviar bisque
  • Dynamite Shrimp – Shrimp Poppers cracklin hot with a spicy Asian Glaze

Salad:

  • Grilled Shrimp Salad with Garlic-Cilantro Dressing – Crispy Romaine tossed with a Garlic-Cilantro Dressing and topped with tender, marinated Shrimp, fresh roasted Red Bell Peppers and Pine Nuts

Bubba’s Shrimp Specials:

  • Shrimp & Veggie Stir Fry – Tender sautéed Shrimp with crispy Vegetables, all tossed together with a sweet and spicy sauce, served over Rice
  • Spicy Jambalaya Pasta – Shrimp and Spicy Andouille Sausage over Linguini with Bourbon Street Tomato Sauce

Fresh Catch Specials:

  • Mediterranean Trevally (Talakitok) – Fresh Trevally pan-seared with Grape Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, herbs and Capers
  • Fresh Cajun Pompano with Mayan Salsa & Shrimp – Garlic fresh Cajun Pompano and grilled Shrimp placed over a bed of Jasmine rice and served with Salsa Fresca

Forrest’s Favorites:

  • Grilled Dory with Jambalaya – Grilled Cream Dory over a spicy New Orleans style Jambalaya with tender Shrimp and Andouille Sausage
  • Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs – An all time favorite at Bubba Gump.

Dessert:

  • That Chocolate Thing – We’re not sure what to call it, but we know you’ll love it! A special jar of warm flourless Chocolate Cake, topped with Vanilla Ice Cream and Whipped Cream, and drizzled with a Raspberry Sauce. You’ll say, “I HAVE TO HAVE THAT CHOCOLATE THING!”

As, I didn’t have my camera with me, I had to make do with my cell phone camera. So here are some of the photos of the food… and of Forrest.

I was taking some random photos, before our game, when I spotted a worker welding some materials. The lens flare from the sparks created a bubble around the worker. Here’s the photo…

Vollé @ Club 650

It’s been four years of volleyball over at Club 650, and Yehey has been the official online sponsor, since its inception. However, it was only recently that TeamYehey joined the corporate division of Vollé @ Club 650.

Here’s a photo of the team, as well as some snaps from another game…

trenZa salon one year anniv

With a fedora on my head and a feather boa around my neck, I was feelin rakenroll!

trenZa salon celebrated their one year anniversary last Friday, and treated bloggers and media (and their families) like rock stars, offering their various first rate services — everything from hair spas to foot scrubs to nail art (even glitter tattooing) — for free.

Ceremonies were kicked off with a spread of various dishes and desserts, before a short speech. Then, it was all rock and roll. Guests filled the seats to get their treatments, and even had a chance to create bracelets or necklaces, while waiting for their turn at some pampering and relaxation.

Here are some photos from the event…

Bo’s Coffee Club @ High Street

Bo’s Coffee Club held it’s second blogger’s event last Friday, in their Bonifacio High Street branch. It was a cold and rainy morning, so hot mugs of our favorite brew awaited all the visitors.

Again, President and CEO Steve Bentitez introduced Bo’s to the bloggers, before initiating the “create a coffee” contest.

Here are a few photos from the event…

switch

Windows user?

Ready to change systems?

SWITCH is an Apple Premium Reseller which symbolizes the shift of windows users to Mac which just recently launched their second branch over at the Alabang Town Center.

During the opening, food was aplenty, drinks were flowing and a lot of comfort snacks, like cotton candy, hotdogs and popcorn were readily available. Music was provided by DJ Funk Avy. And the people behind SWITCH made sure that lots of cool gadgets and hot prizes were given away.

I myself came away with a pair of Chops earphones from Skull Candy.

chowking passes judgment

Last Thursday, representatives from ChowKing came over to the Yehey! office to decide on the winners of the Chow King “Shot at a Laptop” contest. They invited some people from various agencies to assist in sifting through the hundreds of photos submitted by users, and had the tough task of choosing one lucky grand prize winner.

As of this post, all the winners, from the consolation prizes to the lucky laptop winner, but will be announced this Wednesday, 15 October. So make sure to log on to the Chowking Congee Official site to find out if you’re one of the winners.

I will be posting the winners here, also, as soon as the info has been made available and the green light for posting has been given.

my [blogging life] on hold

My blogging life has been put on hold… for a while. While I do not consider myself a hard core blogger, I have come to enjoy writing and posting the “stuff” that has transpired, during my daily adventures off in workland. However, as I have posted earlier, my Mac has crashed and I am still waiting for the shop to call me and tell me everything’s okay.

So I have a backlog of events to be told… but I am catching that laziness. And there is definitely going to be some fall outs. So, as I choose which events to post, I’m off to convert my photos first from RAW format

name mangling

How many people get their name mangled on a daily basis? Not many of you, I suppose. I guess it comes with having such an unusual sounding name.

Yes, I love my name. I find it very unique, and at times, becomes an ice breaker. However, I find that my name gets mangled, bastardized and just plain messed up on a daily basis. Ordering from my favorite fastfood joints, making phone calls and ordering from my favorite millieu, Starbucks has become somewhat of an annoying, yet humorous event.

I took a photo of the latest boo-boo, and will compile the list of revisions my name has gone through.

Some of the funny names I have been given:

  1. Lapzno
  2. Lando
  3. Lazo
  4. Laclo
  5. Lafso
  6. Labno
  7. Ladlo
  8. Lambo
  9. Lasclo
  10. La… La… las… Mr Miguel Lim
  11. my personal favorite: Lason

Caramon Concoction by Abamania

Last September 27, Bo’s Coffee held a blogger’s event for students from the Katipunan area. (read about it here)

As I mentioned, there was a mini contest for the bloggers: a coffee mixing competition, wherein the students got a chance to play baristas.

After brainstorming and cooking up a new and unique coffee mix, each group of student bloggers got to work, with the assistance of Bo’s Coffee president, and passionate coffee afficionado, Steve Benitez.

While all four mixed concoctions tasted great, there had to be one winner. And the winning mix: Caramon Concoction by Abamania, a group of UP students.

Their potable invention is a combination of caramel and cinnamon (thus, the name) mixed into a cool, creamy ice blended drink. While it may seem like an odd pairing, you’ll have to trust me on this; it is a very tasty bev.

And according to Bo’s Coffee Katipunan owner, Winston Quesang, the drink is now available and ready for public approval as the Drink of the Month in the Katipunan branch.

Here’s a shot of the winning group of UP students:

So Meg’s 10th anniversary came and went. I wasn’t really able to stay long, as I had other prior commitments, but it was great seeing my good friend Yeng. And it was pretty funny seeing my sister, as I was coming out of the doors. She had to pay to get in… >_

MEG Marks the Big 10 with Two-Events-in-One

[Young celebrity pals Alwin, Kris Bernal, Felix and Dominic Roco and Abby Cruz]

Recently, Meg, a prestige publication of MEGA Publishing Group, celebrated a decade of style, sensibility and sisterhood with a fashion-forward theme and rockin’ back-to-back events! Presented by Smart and Nokia, the music-filled bash welcomed a huge crowd comprised of Meg readers and some of today’s biggest stars.

Geared towards molding smart, confident and fashionable young women, Meg— the country’s first homegrown teen fashion and lifestyle magazine, invited all its loyal style sisters to dress in their most rockin’ glam garb and troop to Club Ascend in Bonifacio High Street. Upon entering the venue, partygoers got the chance to strike their punkiest pose for the cameras and leave their messages on the photowall.

DJ Gino from RX 93.1 served as the overall host for the night, while fellow RX DJ Rico Robles took over the mic for the main event – the announcement of the winners of the 2008 Meg Face Search and Meg Teen Choice Awards, which boasted an overwhelming 10 million online votes from Meg fanatics spread all over the country and the world.

15-year-old Gandahari Simone Carpio smiled brightly on stage while being proclaimed this year’s Meg Face Search grand prize winner. The young beauty, whose prizes include appearing on the cover of the magazine’s October issue, bagged the title by topping the online poll and getting the thumbs up from the Meg editorial team, led by editor in chief Peewee Isidro-Reyes and MEGA Publishing Group’s top executives led by Sari V. Yap and Lorraine V. Belmonte.

Several celebrities lit up the stage during the announcement of the 2008 Meg Teen Choice awardees. Among the stars who personally received their unique trophies from Bo Concept were Spongecola for Favorite Band, Luis Manzano for Favorite Male Host, Bianca Gonzales for Favorite Female Host, DJs Gino and Fran for RX as Favorite Radio Station. Singer-actress Karylle received the award for Favorite Male Celebrity on behalf of Dingdong Dantes, and a number of Pinoy Idol artists accepted the award for Favorite TV Show. Favorite UAAP Player Chris Tiu, fresh from the other night’s championship game, sent the crowd—especially the Ateneo die-hards— roaring wild when he accepted his award together with his towering teammates.

Other celebrity winners were Marian Rivera for Favorite Female Celebrity, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson for Favorite Celebrity Couple and Shaina Magdayao for Ultimate Style Sister.

Spotted rockin’ the night away were hot celebrities from both showbiz and fashion worlds— from GMA Artist Center were Dominic and Felix Roco, actresses Rhian Ramos, Andi Eigenmann, Kris Bernal, Schinina Juban, ka-Blog hosts Lucky Mercado, Andrea Torres, Mico Aytona and Monica Verallo, and QTV’s chef Rosebud Benitez.

Pretty faces that partied all night were beauty queen Abby Cruz and models Isabel Daza, Jess Wilson, and Vicky Herrera, who came with sisters Rosario and Teresa of Project Runway.

Also having a good time were PBB-Season 2’s Bodie Cruz, Yen Lim-Galagnara, Nel Rapiz and Bea Saw, PBB-Teen Edition’s Mikee Tan, and PDA’s Inaki Ting.

Ten lucky partygoers were randomly selected to receive cool gift packs from Smart, while Meg Face Search finalist Meryl Perey took home a Skechers watch for being the “Punkiest Girl of the Night.” Acer gave one ecstatic Meg reader a brand new Aspire laptop as part of a special raffle.

Odyssey Live provided an impressive band performance line-up that included Hale, Callalily, Pedicab and DJ Mark Nicoasia. Rock band ChicoSci served as the event’s closing musical act.

The Meg’s 10th Anniversary Party was made possible with event sponsors: Del Monte, Zen Zest, Natural Source, Crocs, Kotex, Adidas EDT, Skin Food, G-Max, White Hat, Style and Carry, Watsons Personal Care Store.

starting wrong

I wanted to start the month right, by putting a blog entry on the 1st of the month. But as fate would have it, my Macbook Pro decided to die on me.

Okay, so die may be overstating it, but it’s as good as useless. For some reason, my four-five month old baby just decided to quit on me. I did everything I could to resuscitate it, but even the people at the Power Mac center couldn’t reformat it or fix it… so I had to bring it to one of the official distributor / service centers. Currently, it’s being diagnosed. There’s a huge probability that it’s a hard disk problem. I’m gonna have to wait a week or more before I get my machine back.

This new misfortune got me to thinking, too. I seem to be really unlucky with electronics. Apart from my trusty four year old 20D, everything else seems to be conking out on me. My TV remote (see previous entry) mysteriously stopped working, my pc at home just doesn’t seem to load (while it works fine when I bring it to the office), my mobile phones always seem to have bugs in them, one of the iPods I previously owned died and suddenly resurrected (after I bought a new unit) and now, my Mac.

Ghosts in my machines or just plain unlucky?
