Bo’s Coffee Club @ High Street

Bo’s Coffee Club held it’s second blogger’s event last Friday, in their Bonifacio High Street branch. It was a cold and rainy morning, so hot mugs of our favorite brew awaited all the visitors.

Again, President and CEO Steve Bentitez introduced Bo’s to the bloggers, before initiating the “create a coffee” contest.

switch

Windows user?

Ready to change systems?

SWITCH is an Apple Premium Reseller which symbolizes the shift of windows users to Mac which just recently launched their second branch over at the Alabang Town Center.

During the opening, food was aplenty, drinks were flowing and a lot of comfort snacks, like cotton candy, hotdogs and popcorn were readily available. Music was provided by DJ Funk Avy. And the people behind SWITCH made sure that lots of cool gadgets and hot prizes were given away.

I myself came away with a pair of Chops earphones from Skull Candy.

Last Thursday, representatives from ChowKing came over to the Yehey! office to decide on the winners of the Chow King “Shot at a Laptop” contest. They invited some people from various agencies to assist in sifting through the hundreds of photos submitted by users, and had the tough task of choosing one lucky grand prize winner.

As of this post, all the winners, from the consolation prizes to the lucky laptop winner, but will be announced this Wednesday, 15 October. So make sure to log on to the Chowking Congee Official site to find out if you’re one of the winners.

I will be posting the winners here, also, as soon as the info has been made available and the green light for posting has been given.

Caramon Concoction by Abamania

Last September 27, Bo’s Coffee held a blogger’s event for students from the Katipunan area. (read about it here)

As I mentioned, there was a mini contest for the bloggers: a coffee mixing competition, wherein the students got a chance to play baristas.

After brainstorming and cooking up a new and unique coffee mix, each group of student bloggers got to work, with the assistance of Bo’s Coffee president, and passionate coffee afficionado, Steve Benitez.

While all four mixed concoctions tasted great, there had to be one winner. And the winning mix: Caramon Concoction by Abamania, a group of UP students.

Their potable invention is a combination of caramel and cinnamon (thus, the name) mixed into a cool, creamy ice blended drink. While it may seem like an odd pairing, you’ll have to trust me on this; it is a very tasty bev.

And according to Bo’s Coffee Katipunan owner, Winston Quesang, the drink is now available and ready for public approval as the Drink of the Month in the Katipunan branch.

Here’s a shot of the winning group of UP students:

Share the Bo's Coffee experience

When you’re passionate about something, it shows. And I think that was evident, when president of Bo’s Coffee, Steve Benitez shared his thoughts and views on the special bean in this local coffee house.

Student bloggers gathered at the Bo’s Coffee Katipunan branch for a unique day of coffee tasting and creation (as written in my previous post).

So after Steve “shared his passion,” the main event began. Students grouped themselves together, and were given the task of creating their own drinks. Excitedly, they discussed their mixtures and combinations for their home made concoctions.

Being a coffee lover, myself, I was eagerly anticipating the results of the brainstorming. And I was not disappointed. The brews were original and very tasty. But as there will be another event coming soon, I can’t give away too many details on the coffee drinks whipped up by the four groups.

And as an added incentive to the winners, their inventions will be featured in the Bo’s coffee houses across the country for a month, with full recognition given, with the runners-up getting a week of coffee glory.

So, without writing too much more, here are a few photos from the event.

Porsche Cayenne S… Transsyberia style

After winning the Transsyberia Rally three years in a row (and taking the top 6 positions in this years contest), PGA Cars has finally decided to introduce the new Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia to the local market via a two-day test drive of the sturdy vehicle.

Last September 12, I headed over to McKinley Hill to witness the durability and exceptional performance of the vehicle, in a simulated environment.

For those of you that are unaware, the Transsyberia Rally is an intercontinental race from Moscow, Russia to Ulan Bator, Mongolia. Spanning approximately 7,200 kilometers, the rally is a grueling two week competition across various forms of terrain that takes its toll on both man and machine. So both driver and vehicle have to be first rate.

On hand that day was Mr. Eddie Keng, Porsche Sport Driving School instructor and two-time Transsyberia Rally participant. After showing us some clips from the race, and sharing some of his experiences, Mr. Keng led us out to the make shift rally course and introduced us to the obstacles we’d be facing. So after our quick briefing, we were off to experience the Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia…

Anyway, here are a few photos from the event.

Jollibee: fastfood… literally

Today, Jollibee gave new meaning to the term “fastfood”.

Launching their new line of “Sarap-on-the-move” variants of the classic Jolly Hotdog, Jollibee invited select members of the media, as well as a few bloggers to partake in a few rounds of adrenaline pumping karting over at City Kart before sampling their new Chili Cheese Dog and Bacon Mushroom Tops.

Yes, we got to zip around for a few exciting laps in those extremely fun go-karts with full gear — jumpsuit, helmet and all. But more importantly, we got a preview of the delightful new offerings from Jollibee.

The Chili Cheese Dog offers a mild kick with its spiced beef toppings and generous layer of cheesy sauce while the Bacon Mushroom Tops is a tasty treat with loads of sprinkled bacon bits, mushroom slices and cheesy sauce. Both sandwiches are hearty snacks and quite easy to munch on, even when on the go.

And if you’re wondering about the cost… the solo sandwiches retail at PhP 42.00, while the value meal goes for PhP 66.00. So if you’re looking for a quick bite with a lot of flavor, you may want to check out Jollibee’s latest treats.

Chowking Hongkong Style Congee

Once again, Chowking brings us another way to enjoy their food, while getting a chance to take home some cool freebies. This time, though, you get a chance to win a laptop.

Simply order a bowl of their Hongkong Style Congee take a snap of the said meal and share your most creative Chowking Congee experience photo… and you’re on your way to being a proud owner of a new Acer Aspire.

old Jollibee faves

Last night, I was able to catch The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor thanks to Jollibee’s special screening at the Greenbelt My Cinema. The flick was, as the previous installments, very entertaining. Full of witty banter, lots of action and a pretty straightforward story line. There were a few cornball lines thrown into the mix, but The Mummy series has never claimed to be Oscar material… so suspend any pre-conceived notions of this being a ground-breaking movie. It is a movie to catch purely for the entertainment value.

But before getting too in depth into the flick, let me get back to the real reason I made it to the screening: to check out the two burgers that were being brought back to the limelight by our favorite Pinoy fastfood joint, Jollibee. Yes, the Amazing Aloha and the Cheezy Bacon Mushroom Burgers are back, due to popular demand. And this time, they’re bigger — adding a second patty to the already scrumptious burger . Come August 13, you will find these two crowd pleasers in all Jollibee joints nationwide. I’m not a big fan of fruits in my food, but the Amazing Aloha could be the exception to the rule. As to the Cheesy Bacon Mushroom… being able to put some of my favorite burger add-ons is definitely a great way to enjoy my favorite (fattening) fastfood fare.

For those of you wondering about the price, the burgers only cost PhP 82.00 solo. If you want the value meal, it comes out to PhP 108.00. But, as an added bonus, Jollibee will also be promoting their Coke products via a free refill, everytime you upsize your drink.

So if you’re looking for a tasty way to enjoy a hearty meal, grab one of these Jollibee classics while sipping down on some ice cold Coke Light.

daughtry presscon

Last night, I had the pleasure of going to the Daughtry press conference at Shanghai Bistro in Eastwood City. And although we had to wait for about two and a half hours, it was worth it (the wait).

Chris Daughtry and the rest of the band seemed like they genuinely wanted to be where they were. No airs, no qualms no prima donna attitudes. Plus, they seemed like five quirky and funny individuals, as a couple of the members even gave us a sample of a new dance they came up with — the “Double Dragon”. [Note: Since you can only see a photo in my Multiply album, it's basically a rendition of the moves from that classic Taito video game from the 80s in dance form]

And as an added bonus, I got to meet Mo Twister. No, he’s not my man crush (in fact, I don’t even think I have one), but he’s truly one of the wittiest and most original people in the world of showbiz.

Daughtry will be playing in a few hours in what everyone in the media seems to be calling an “intimate” setting. BS man. For the life of me, I can’t conceive how the term intimate even sprung up. Sure it’s much smaller than a normal concert, but having three thousand fans is far from it (intimate). But nevertheless, props to Eastwood City for coming up with a makeshift stadium.

Anyway, here are additional photos from the presscon.

more Yehey! IDs

One of the fun aspects of working in a dot com is the loose and light-hearted atmosphere. The people are young, creative and game for just about anything. We have Filipino translations for our work designations (like ang Hinete ng Channels, ang Barker ng Marketing) and we also have our creative poses for our Identification cards. Last week, I took a few photos of some of the newer hires, as well as some of the oldies that wanted a retake. So here they are:

watsons men's zone

Make-over and men. Two words that you don’t often hear uttered in the same breath, let alone associate together. However, in this day and age of the emerging metrosexuals, men have started to take care, not only of their bodies, but also their personal appearance — grooming and hygiene. And Watsons is aware of this.

For the whole month of June, Watsons, the premiere “Personal Store” gave men a few more reasons to pamper themselves with discounts, freebies, customized hair stylings, massages and many more activities. And as an added treat, 25 lucky men were chosen to get the “complete makeover,” clothing and accesories included.

As a culminating event last Friday, at the Hard Rock Café in Glorietta, Watsons held a mini fashion show featuring the 25 lucky men. Strutting their stuff onstage, the men paraded their new looks and showed what a total makeover can do for one’s presonal appearance, as well as their confidence and self-esteem.

Of course, the night would not have been complete without the comedic stylings of the Brew Rats — Ramon Bautista, Angel and Tado of 99.5 Campus FM, as well as a musical performance by the Itchyworms.

island cove

Despite the heavy traffic on a Monday morn, Lan and I headed over to Island Cove to do a small feature on the resort. Neither of us had been to the 36 hectare attraction, so we had no idea what to expect. Little did we know, we were in for quite a surprise.

To be honest, I figured Island Cove to be a typical small resort with a pool and a few hotel rooms. Of course, nothing could have been further from the truth… and here’s some proof:

[click image for a larger view]

[click image for a larger view]

[click image for a larger view]

[click image for a larger view]

Within the 36 hectare resort, Island Cove offers various amenities and activities for the whole family. At the Oceania Water Park, there’s a huge pool with a giant slide for the water lovers, as well as kiddie pool cum play area complete with water fountains and “jungle gym”. For the sporty types, there’s a gym, a bowling alley, a tennis court, as well as a basketball court. For the cerebral individuals, you can check out the life sized chess set for a quick game. The entire family can enjoy some animal fun in the Butterfly Gardens, the Reptile Zoo, feed the crocs in the Crocodile farm or check out some of the simians in the Monkey Island. There are also various wildlife in the Animal island such as Bengal Tigers, Ostrich, Cassowary and much more. And for those of you that want to get up close and personal with the fauna, you can also check out petting zoo.

If you get hungry, you have your choice of some Pinoy food at the Fishing Village (where you can also go fishing while waiting for your fare), some international rations over at Sangley Point or continental food over at the Hotel Café.

Of course, for those of you that choose to unwind, there is also a spa within the resort that offers various services and treatments for your pampering needs.

And, if you find yourself still raring to go in the evenings, Island Cove offers a few attractions and entertainment facilities for your evening activities such as the Island Sing videoke so you can belt out few tunes and the F Deck Bar for a quick nightcap or an all night drinking binge (with a live band for entertainment).

We only had a few hours to tour the area, but the spots that we visited were already more than enough to overload our visual palates and memory capacity. So until our next visit, this will have to do.

If you want to find out their rates, their special promo packages or simply get more info, check out the Island Cove website.

And don’t forget to keep checking Yehey! for Karla’s in depth article on the resort.
